LeSieur Pitches Massachusetts Baseball Past Stonehill, 10-6

The left-handed pitcher tossed a career high matching six innings and had a career-best seven strikeouts.
The win improves the Minutemen to 12-30 overall, while the Skyhawks drop to an overall record of 10-32.
Nolan Tichy and Kevin Skagerlind led the way with three hits apiece, including a home run by Tichy, followed by four other Minutemen with two hits. Tichy and Skagerlind both added two runs, while Tichy tallied four RBI on the day. Jack Peters recorded a career high three RBI and registered two hits and one run, marking the first hit and run of his career. Will MacLean, Mike Gervasi and Jake Given totaled one RBI apiece, and six Minutemen contributed a run to UMass' total. Tichy, Gervasi and Justin Blumenthal recorded doubles, as Skagerlind and Carter Hanson had one stolen base each.
LeSieur (2-0) earned his second win in his third start for UMass, going six innings and allowing only six hits with no earned runs and no walks.
Massachusetts got the bats going early, as the Minutemen put up four runs in the first frame. Skagerlind led off with a walk, before advancing to second on a passed ball. MacLean brought Skagerlind home on a RBI single. Tichy hit his 10th long ball of the season to score him and MacLean and make it a 3-0 game. Gervasi followed the homer with a double to left center field. A two-out, RBI single to center field by Given helped Gervasi bring the score to 4-0.
UMass headed into its half of the second starting at the top of the order, as Skagerlind hit a single to the shortstop, and then stole second. Tichy doubled down the left field line, driving in Skagerlind and extend the Minutemen's lead to 5-0. A RBI single from Gervasi aided Tichy to cross the plate and give Massachusetts a 6-0 lead.
The Minutemen notched another run in the third on a single up the middle by Peters, marking his first hit of the year, bringing Hill around to the dish. In the fifth, UMass held an 8-0 lead as Peters came across home plate on Tichy's RBI single up the middle.
Stonehill pushed a run across in the seventh inning on a RBI single to get on the board. The Skyhawks plated five more runs in the top of the eighth to close the gap and make it an 8-6 contest.
In the bottom half of the eighth frame, UMass took back two runs to claim a 10-6 lead. Hanson singled with one out, before stealing second. Michael Toth went to first on a hit-by-pitch, with Gervasi then loading the bases up with a single to the shortstop. Peters, then, knocked in Hanson and Toth on a single up the middle. The Minutemen defense held off the Skyhawks in the ninth to secure the 10-6 triumph.
For Stonehill, Max Brulport (2-2) took the loss, giving up four runs, all earned, on as many hits, two walks and had no strikeouts in 0.2 innings of work.
Massachusetts concludes its road slate with a trip to Bronx, N.Y., to face A-10 foe Fordham for a three-game series on Friday, May 12 through Sunday, May 14. Friday's contest will begin at 3 p.m., before a 1 p.m. first pitch on Saturday. Sunday's finale is set for 12 p.m. on ESPN+.
