#15 UMass Defeats Duquesne For 11th Straight Win, 17-5

Jordan Dean recorded a career-best 15 draw controls while Kassidy Morris and Charlotte Wilmoth each finished with a team-best five points.

AMHERST, Mass. The no. 15-ranked Massachusetts women's lacrosse team extended its unbeaten streak to 11 with a 17-5 win over Duquesne on Saturday afternoon at Garber Field. The Minutewomen (12-1 Overall, 6-0 Atlantic 10) scored 13 of their 17 goals in the first half and were led offensively by five points each for Kassidy Morris and Charlotte Wilmoth.
 
Wilmoth recorded four of her five points in the opening quarter as she netted the first two goals of the afternoon and followed with an assist to Kylee Bowen to make it 3-0 with 9:27 left in the first. Morris picked up two of her points as well in the first quarter, scoring back-to-back goals in a span just over a minute to make it 5-0 in favor of UMass with under five minutes left. Alex Finn and Fiona McGowan capped off the first with a goal apiece to make it 7-0.
 
The Minutewomen took a 13-0 advantage into the halftime break after netting six more in the second quarter. Morris broke through with her third of the day just under six minutes into the second before Jordan Dean made it a 10-goal game with her first career goal. Dean also added a career-high 15 draw controls to help her move into fifth all-time at UMass with 144 for her career while her 93 this season ranks eighth-most among Minutewomen.
 
Wilmoth opened the second half with her third and final goal of the day while Duquesne followed with back-to-back goals to make it a 14-3 contest. McGowan added her third of the game to record a hat trick with her 31st of the year with 11:20 to go prior to Emma Dengler capping off the day with her first career goal late in the fourth.
 
UMass finished with a 17-6 advantage on the draw and caused 17 turnovers on the day with Audra Tosone leading the way with six while Amy Moreau added three. Tosone also scooped up a game-high six ground balls with Hannah Heller chipping in four. Tosone's six draw controls moved her to 69 for her career and into a tie for eighth-most all-time at UMass with Julie Papaleo (2005-08).
 
Gina Carroll finished with two saves in goal for the Minutewomen in the first half and held the Dukes scoreless while Catrina Tobin finished the second half with two saves and five goals allowed.
 
The Minutewomen head out on the road for their next two contests beginning on Saturday at VCU for a noon draw and will return to Garber Field on April 29 for Senior Day against George Mason.
