UMass Wins Fourth Straight, Defeats UConn 16-12

The Minutewomen outscored the Huskies 10-4 in the second half after trailing by two at halftime.
STORRS, Conn. - The no. 22-ranked University of Massachusetts women's lacrosse team won its fourth straight game with a 16-12 win over UConn on Saturday afternoon at Morrone Stadium. The Minutewomen (5-1 Overall) were led offensively by Alex Finn's fourth goals and two assists while Kylee Bowen added three on the day.
The Minutewomen notched the first two goals of the game with Audra Tosone and Amy Moreau netting one apiece. UConn responded with two of their own to even the score. Finn regained the Massachusetts lead with 1:01 left in the first quarter before UConn scored with :26 left in the quarter to regain the lead.
The second quarter opened with two more Husky goals before Kassidy Morris cut the UMass deficit to one at 6:54. UConn scored a pair before Kylee Bowen took it into her own hands, tallying two within three minutes of each other. The Huskies scored with less than a minute left in the quarter to enter halftime with a two goal lead.
Finn opened up the second half's scoring, netting one just 1:28 into the half. UConn responded shortly thereafter to maintain their two-goal lead. Morris netted her second tally of the day to bring the score within one. The Minutewomen and Huskies kept it a one goal game until 11:21, when Finn scored her third of the day to tie the game at 10. Bowen brought Massachusetts their first lead of the half at 13:24 to wrap up the third quarter.
Finn scored yet another at the start of the fourth quarter to extend the Minutewoman lead. UConn responded to yet again bring the game within one before Massachusetts went on a four goal run to win the game.
Jordan Dean finished with five draw controls while Tosone added five of her own for a UMass squad that posted a 19-13 advantage over UConn on the draw. Tosone added a game-high three caused turnovers for the UMass defensive while Kelly Brown forced two.
The Minutewomen return to the field on Saturday, March 11 for their first Atlantic 10 matchup of the season against the Richmond Spiders.
