#20 UMass Rolls To 19-4 Win At George Washington For Seventh Straight Win

The Minutewomen scored 15 unanswered goals after the Colonials tied at 3-3 with 5:24 left in the first.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The no. 20-ranked Massachusetts women's lacrosse team rolled to its seventh consecutive victory with a 19-4 win at George Washington on Saturday afternoon. The Minutewomen (8-1 Overall, 2-0 Atlantic 10) scored 15 unanswered goals after the game was tied with 5:24 remaining in the first quarter.
UMass went ahead 3-0 with Alex Finn opening the scoring with her first of four first half goals. Finn finished the afternoon with a game-high four goals to bring her to a tie for the team-lead on the season with 19.
The Colonials (1-7 Overall, 1-1 Atlantic 10) answered with three straight goals to tie at 3-3 with a pair from Kerry McKeever. McKeever finished tied for a team-high in goals with Amber Germer with two apiece.
The Minutewomen went on to score three straight goals to end the first quarter and 11 consecutive to end the first half. Amy Moreau helped cap off the first quarter and give UMass a 6-3 lead as part of her three goals and an assist for four points on the day. Moreau finished with a first half hat trick as one of nine different goal scorers for the Minutewomen in the opening half.
Layton Nass netted her first goal of the season at the 10:54 mark of the second half as part of seven different goal scorers for UMass in the second quarter.
UMass kept its goal streak going by scoring four more unanswered goals to begin the third quarter with Charlotte Clavelli opening the second half scoring with her fifth of the year less than three minutes in. Fiona McGowan scored her 19th of the season with 3:49 left in the third off an assist from Charlotte Wilmoth as McGowan ended the day with a goal and two assists for four points.
Kassidy Morris and Caroline Whelan opened the fourth with a goal each to cap off the stretch of 15 straight goals for the Minutewomen. The Colonials found the back of the net for the fourth and final time with 5:13 to go in the fourth to net GW's first goal since the 5:24 mark of the first quarter.
Defensively, UMass held George Washington scoreless in both the second and third quarters while posting a 40-8 shot advantage on the afternoon. Both Gina Carroll and Catrina Tobin logged two saves each in separate halves in goal while Audra Tosone caused a game-high four turnovers and secured a game-high four ground balls.
The Minutewomen return home to Garber Field on Wednesday for a 2 p.m. matchup against La Salle.
