#22 UMass Nets Seven Unanswered Goals To Key 14-5 Win Over Siena

Charlotte Wilmoth finished with a hat trick as part of eight different Minutewomen to score goals on the afternoon.
AMHERST, Mass. – The no. 22-ranked Massachusetts women's lacrosse team picked up its second win of the season at Garber Field with a 14-5 win over Siena on Wednesday afternoon. The Minutewomen (2-1 Overall) scored seven unanswered goals after falling behind 2-0 early to help them take a 7-3 lead into the halftime break.
Siena (1-2 Overall) opened the scoring just under three minutes in with a Jordan Bentley goal before Kendra MacCaull found the back of the net with 8:56 left in the first quarter to give the Saints a 2-0 advantage. Katy Wangsness led the Saints on the day with a team-leading two goals with both providing the scoring for Siena in the second half.
Hannah Heller opened the scoring for the Minutewomen with just under eight minutes remaining in the first half, forcing a turnover near midfield and took it all the way to the other end to net her first of the year. Heller's goal jumpstarted a stretch of seven unanswered goals for UMass.
Erin Seibel opened a stretch of two man-down goals in just 13 seconds for the Minutewomen with her first of the season off an assist from Fiona McGowan to tie things up at 2-2 with under 30 seconds left in the first. Charlotte Wilmoth scored 13 seconds later to give UMass its first lead of the afternoon off an assist from Maya Keenan-Gallagher. Wilmoth finished with a hat trick with a game-leading three goals, including both of UMass' goals in the fourth, while putting five of her six shot attempts on frame.
Amy Moreau stretched the UMass advantage to two goals at 4-2 just 12 seconds into the second quarter before Kylee Bowen netted two consecutive goals with the second coming off an assist from McGowan. McGowan finished with two assists to give her a team-leading five on the year. Defensively, Moreau collected a game-high six ground balls while McGowan added five for a UMass squad that collected 29 on the game.
Seibel capped off the stretch of seven unanswered goals for UMass with her second goal to make it a 7-2 contest with 5:53 until the halftime break before Siena added its third goal with one tick left on the clock.
The UMass defense surrendered just two goals in the second half with both coming in the third period. Offensively, the Minutewomen put home five of their seven second half goals in the third highlighted by two each from Lauren Tolve and Kassidy Morris. Morris' pair of goals moved her to six on the season while Alex Finn added one for UMass in the third to give her five on the year.
Gina Carroll stopped six shots in goal in the first half for the Minutewomen while Catrina Tobin picked up six saves in the second half. Siena's Sabrina Krasner finished with 16 saves to lead the game.
The Minutewomen conclude their two-game homestand on Saturday with a matchup against Dartmouth at noon.
