Women’s Lacrosse Hosts Pair Of Games On Garber Field This Week

AMHERST, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts women's lacrosse team plays a pair of games on Garber Field this week beginning with Siena on Wednesday at 2 p.m. The Minutewomen are also at home this weekend when they play host to Dartmouth on Saturday at noon.
Series With Siena
UMass leads the all-time series with Siena 3-0 dating back to the first meeting between the two programs in 2011. The Minutewomen picked up an 18-12 road win over the Saints last season. Alex Finn scored twice for the Minutewomen and dished out two assists while Gina Carroll picked up two saves in 38 minutes to get the win.
Last Time Out
The Minutewomen fell at No. 3-ranked Boston College last Wednesday by a final score of 16-6. Kassidy Morris scored a pair of goals for UMass, picking up her first goal just over a minute into the second before adding her final goal later in the quarter. Freshman Caroline Whelan also tallied her first collegiate goal as she found the back of the net midway through the first. Fiona McGowan added a pair of assists for the Minutewomen.
Top-25 Poll
UMass moved up a spot to no. 22 in the latest ILWomen/IWLCA Division I poll as announced on Monday morning. The Minutewomen are one of two Atlantic 10 teams in the poll with Richmond at 19 following its 3-0 start to the season.
Bowen's Goals
Kylee Bowen leads the Atlantic 10 in goals per game at 3.50 and ranks inside the top-50 nationally in the category. Bowen scored a career-high seven goals in the season-opening against UMass Lowell. Her seven total goals on the season ranks among the top-10 in the A-10. Bowen also earned the A-10 Offensive Player of the Week honor in the opening week of the season for her efforts. The senior also averages 6.0 shots on goal per game to lead the Atlantic 10 and rank 20th nationally.
Under Control
Jordan Dean leads the Atlantic 10 in draw controls her game at 8.5 and ranks 12th among Division I leaders in the category. Dean opened the season with a career-best 12 draw controls in the win over UMass Lowell and added five on the road at Boston College last week.
Turning It Over
The UMass defense ranks among the top-25 teams nationally in caused turnovers per game at 10.5. Layton Nass averages 3.0 caused turnovers per game to rank second in the A-10 and 12th in the country in the category. Nass earned the A-10 Co-Defensive Player of the Week honor the first week of the season after causing four turnovers and collecting four ground balls in the win over UMass Lowell. The senior also ranks 24th in the nation in ground balls per game at 3.5.
Looking Ahead
The Minutewomen follow this week's action with a pair of regional road games next week. UMass opens play next week with a Wednesday matchup at Holy Cross at 5:30 p.m. and follows with a 1 p.m. start on Saturday, March 4 at UConn.
