#23 UMass Falls On The Road At #3 Boston College, 16-6

Kassidy Morris netted two goals for the Minutewomen while Gina Carroll finished with six saves.

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The no. 23-ranked UMass women's lacrosse team fell 16-6 on the road at no. 3-ranked Boston College on Wednesday afternoon at the Fish Field House. The Minutewomen (1-1 Overall) scored five of their six goals in the opening half and were led offensively on the day by two goals from Kassidy Morris and two assists by Fiona McGowan.
 
McGowan assisted on the opening two goals for the Minutewomen, including Charlotte Wilmoth's score just over four minutes in as UMass took an early 1-0 advantage. McGowan added her second assist of the day with 7:39 left in the first, connecting with Caroline Whelan from behind the net for her first career goal to tie things up at 2-2.
 
After the Eagles (2-0 Overall) answered with two straight goals to go ahead 4-2 heading into the second quarter, Morris netted her first of the game to bring UMass within one just over a minute into the new frame. The redshirt freshman added one more in the second quarter, finding the back of the net with 4:19 to go off an assist from Amy Moreau. The goal marked the fourth of the season for Morris.
 
Boston College's Kayla Martello continued a stretch of six consecutive goals for the home team in the third quarter as the Eagles netted five in the third quarter to make it a 13-5 game. Martello finished with a game-high five goals for the Eagles while Mallory Hasselbeck added three.
 
Alex Finn scored UMass' lone goal of the second half in the fourth quarter as she found the back of the net off an assist from Kylee Bowen with 10:07 remaining in the game. The Eagles scored a minute later to stretch their lead back to eight before adding two more in a 16-6 final.
 
Gina Carroll finished with six saves for the Minutewomen with all six coming in the first half. Boston College posted a 16-10 shot advantage in the opening half and put 23 shots on target with UMass putting 15-of-19 shot attempts on frame. Jordan Dean finished with a team-best five draw controls with Hannah Heller and Layton Nass each collecting three ground balls.
 
The Minutewomen return home to Garber Field next Wednesday for a 2 p.m. start against Siena.
