Massachusetts Swimming & Diving Win Justin Jennings Invitational

Both the Minutemen and Minutewomen claimed first in the two-day invite.
HAMILTON, N.Y. – The University of Massachusetts swimming and diving team combined for 2,022 points to claim first at the Justin Jennings Invitational, hosted by Colgate, at the Lineberry Natatorium on Saturday afternoon. The women's team earned the team scoring title with a score of 923, while the men's team secured first with 1,099 points.
Three In A Row At Colgate
The Minutewomen's victory marked the third consecutive win at the invitational.
In total, swimming and diving won 10 individual events on the final day of competition and added 17 top-three marks.
Podium Sweep
The Minutemen swept the podium in the 500 free, led by Wilson Dubois' winning time of 4:49.59. Emerson Kiefer followed as runner-up with a time of 4:54.42, while Jude Boukarroum took third, finishing with a time of 4:54.71.
Fast Freshmen
Freshmen Beren Cakiroglu and Lindsay Burbage posted the top times in the 100 free and the 200 breaststroke, respectively, for the Minutewomen. Cakiroglu swam a time of 53.33 in 100 free, while Burbage completed the 200 breaststroke with a time 2:27.76.
Additionally, Diya Ackerman-Vallala competed in the 500 free, posting a third-place finish with a time of 5:17.02, as Burbage earned third in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:14.33.
For the Minutemen, Boukarroum's recorded time of 4:54.71 in the 500 free aided him to a third-place finish.
Diving In
Sophomore Salem Howes sat atop the podium in the 1-meter dive on day one of the competition, totaling a score of 26.45. On the final day of the invitational, she earned a score of 207.35 in the 3-meter dive to take first.
Top Finishes
Senior Sam Haddad won two individual events on day two of the Justin Jennings Invitational, finishing the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:12.31 and the 200 individual medley with a time of 1:59.10. Sophomore Sammy Quigg took first in the 100 free with a time of 45.25, while Dubois recorded a time of 4:49.59 in the 500 free. Senior Juan Montori took the top spot in the 100 fly with a time of 51.06
For the Minutewomen, Cakiroglu earned first with her time of 53.33 in the 100 free, as senior Bri Williams finished first in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:06.23. Burbage had a time of 2:27.76 in the 200 breaststroke to win the event, as senior Summer Pierce finished with a time of 57.01 in the 100 fly.
Next Up
Both the men's and women's swim team will return to the pool for the NJIT Invite in Newark, New Jersey, on Friday, October 13 through Saturday, October 14. The meet will be swim only, with Friday's events kicking off at 5 p.m., while Saturday's events begin at 10 a.m.
