April 03, 2022 | Women's Lacrosse
AMHERST, MA. – The Massachusetts Women's Lacrosse team climbed to 10-2 on Sunday with a comfortable 19-7 victory over the Patriots of George Mason University. This win promoted the Minutewomen to 4-0 in the Atlantic 10, tying Richmond as the trailblazers of the conference. The assists on the day far favored Massachusetts, as they were able to grab six, compared to George Mason's one.
Fourteen players for UMass were able to add a goal to the tally, and leading the way with three points apiece were senior Maddy Moloney and graduate student Olivia Muscella. Tallying two goals, and with them, here 200th career point, was graduate student, Kendra Harbinger.
It was brilliance in net yet again, as senior Gina Carroll and junior Bridgette Wall combined to hold the opposition under ten goals yet again. The clears for Massachusetts were near perfection 10-11, but the shots on goal were where they really were able to outpace the Patriots (23-9).
The Minutewomen were on fire early once again for the Sunday matinée, blasting off to an 11-0 lead at the end of the first period. They were able to coast from there and play with a mindset focused on damage control. The defense was able to buckle down and prevent the Patriots from reaching anywhere near the final tally of 19 goals. The team did a marvelous job of forcing turnovers, as 12 of George Mason's 13 turnovers were caused by the Minutewomen.
UMass would coast to a 19-7 win, ranking them at 4-0 and stalemated atop the A-10. Massachusetts will remain in Amherst on Friday, April 8 to host George Washington with a 1:30 p.m. first draw.
