Minutewomen Best Colonials 22-8, Move to 5-0 in Conference Play

April 08, 2022 | Women's Lacrosse

AMHERST, MA. – The Massachusetts Women's Lacrosse team climbed to 11-2 on Friday with a 22-8 win over the Colonials of George Washington University. This victory sent the Minutewomen to 5-0 in the Atlantic 10 to remain atop the conference along with Sunday opponent, Richmond. The shots rained down from the sticks of the Minutewomen, making the 34-11 shots on goal advantage the story of the game.

Thirteen different players scored for UMass, and there were multiple three-goal hat tricks from Kelly Marra, as well as graduate student Kendra Harbinger. Marra was all over the field on Friday, as her shots (6) were more than half of the total shots for GW (11).

It was more of the same from the two brick wall goaltenders, as senior Gina Carroll and junior Bridgette Wall came together to hold the opposition to just 8 goals. The clears for Massachusetts were a very respectable 12-13, but they shined most taking care of the ball.

UMass only had 4 turnovers the entire game. The Minutewomen continued to bury their opponents early, marching out to a 10-3 lead at the end of the first period. The team never gave away the lead from there, and once again coasted for the remaining 3 periods, growing the lead slowly over time.

Massachusetts was able to force 13 turnovers for George Washington, which is part of the reason they were able to maintain such a comfortable lead.

UMass would roll to a 22-8 win, putting them at 5-0 and stalemated atop the A-10. Massachusetts will stay in Amherst on Sunday, April 10 to host the University of Richmond with a 1:00 p.m. first draw.
