Minutewomen Defeat Bonnies To Complete Series Sweep, 7-5

Bella Pantoja went 3-for-4 at the plate with three runs and a RBI and finished the three-game series with eight hits.

AMHERST, Mass.The University of Massachusetts softball team picked up a 7-5 game three win over St. Bonaventure on Saturday afternoon at Sortino Field to complete the three-game series sweep. Bella Pantoja led the Minutewomen with three hits, including a double and a triple, and finished the series 8-for-11 at the plate.
 
St. Bonaventure built a 2-0 lead in the top half of the first, using two hits three free passes to load the bases before a Jenna Bradley strikeout ended the frame. Jessie DiPasquale entered the circle with one out in the second inning and got a strikeout with two runners on prior to a bases loaded fly out to right field. DiPasquale threw 5.2 innings to pick up her seventh win of the season and struck out a pair.
 
Chloe Whittier's first of two hits came in the first trip to the plate for the Minutewomen as she sent a RBI base hit through the right side to plate Pantoja to make it a one-run game.
 
Pantoja, Payge Suggs and Amy Smith strung together three consecutive base hits in the second inning to spark a two-run frame for the Minutewomen. Pantoja sent a triple to the left center field gap to bring in Giana Wameling before a Suggs RBI base hit made it 3-2 in favor of UMass. Suggs finished the game 2-for-2 with two walks, two RBI and a run scored.
 
The Minutewomen responded with three runs of their own after St. Bonaventure plated three on a three-run home run in the top of the fourth to go ahead 5-3. Sarah Keagy brought in a run with a bases loaded walk while Whittier followed with a ball in play that led to two runs on a Bonnies error to make it 6-5.
 
Suggs picked up her second RBI base hit of the afternoon drove in Pantoja with two outs in the fifth to bring the score to a 7-5 final.
 
UMass continues Atlantic 10 play on Tuesday with a 3 p.m. matchup at Rhode Island before returning home to Sortino Field for its next five games.
