March 29, 2022 | Tennis
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Freshman Renata Farima has been named the Atlantic 10 Performer of the Week, as announced by the conference on Tuesday afternoon, marking the first Player of the Week honor. The award also marks the fifth weekly accolade for Farima, as she earned A-10 Rookie of the Week four times throughout the season.
Farima received the award for her 4-0 overall effort on the week, posting a 2-0 record in both doubles and singles competition, as the Minutewomen split the weekend. UMass fell in a close battle to #71 Harvard on the road, 4-3, before defeating Siena at home, 6-1.
At Harvard, the freshman partnered with Vitoria Okuyama in doubles play, where the duo took down their opponents 7-6 (7-4) at No. 2. Farima went on to win 7-6 (5), 6-2 over her opponent at No. 1 singles. Against Siena, she and partner Dylan Cannon defeated their opposition 6-1 on court No. 2 to claim the doubles point, before the Chisinau, Republic of Moldova, native, came out on top, 6-1, 6-1, in the No. 1 spot over her Siena opponent.
Massachusetts hosts A-10 foe Fordham on Sunday, April 3, for a 1 p.m. match. The match will either be held indoors in the Bay Road Indoor Tennis Center or outdoors at the Mullins Center Tennis Courts, weather pending.
