Minutewomen Start 2-0 in A-10 Play

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Massachusetts women's lacrosse program went 2-0 this weekend after a 21-9 victory over Duquesne on Sunday afternoon. The Minutewomen move to 8-2 on the season and 2-0 in A-10 play.
Seven Minutewomen recorded multi-goal outings, while 14 different UMass players recorded goals in the victory. Alex Finn led in points on two goals and three assists, while Kelly Marra, Olivia Muscella, and Julia Smith each contributed four.
Brinley Anderson led the defensive effort, recording three caused turnovers and five ground balls, while Jordan Dean notched a career high, eight draw controls.
Gina Carroll picked up her eighth win of the season, splitting time with Bridgett Wall in the victory.
Massachusetts out-shot their opponents, 40-12 in the win, putting 32 on goal. The Minutewomen were a perfect 11-11 on clears and won the draw-control battle 25-8.
The score was tied 2-2 midway through the first quarter before the Minutewomen pulled away, holding the 8-2 lead to end the first quarter.
With seven minutes to play in the first half, Haley Connaughton gave UMass the 12-2 advantage, and the Minutewomen would not hold back, leading by as many goals as 12 before the close of the contest.
UMass would hold on for the 21-9 victory, starting off A-10 play 2-0 on the weekend.
Massachusetts will return to home on Friday, April 1 to host George Washington with a 1:00 p.m. first draw.
