Massachusetts Tennis Prepares For Match At Yale

The Minutewomen face the Bulldogs at 1 p.m., on Sunday, March 6.

AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts tennis team travel to New Haven, Connecticut, on Sunday, March 6, to match up against Yale University at the Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center. UMass is looking to notch its seventh straight victory on the road at 1 p.m.
 
LAST TIME OUT
UMass blanked both Seton Hall and Holy Cross last weekend, as the Minutewomen picked up their fifth and sixth consecutive triumphs this season. In the last three matches, Massachusetts has also swept all their opponents, with the other 7-0 win being over Binghamton on Feb. 13.
 
In doubles competition, Danielle Hack and Thamonpan Jonglertrakul finished first at No. 2, taking down their Seton Hall opponents, 6-1, before Renata Farima and Dylan Cannon secured the point for the Minutewomen with a 6-2 win at court No. 3. UMass grabbed the doubles point against Holy Cross with wins on all three courts, including Hack and Jonglertrakul notching the point with a 6-0 victory at No. 2.
 
Farima got off to a quick start versus Seton Hall, defeating her opponent 6-2, 6-2, on court No. 1, followed by Polina Akimova's 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 3 and Krasakova's 6-0, 6-3 triumph on No. 4. Hack (6-4, 7-5) and Okuyama (6-1, 6-2) were next to complete their matches to grab their own points, as Cannon won by default on court No. 6. Against Holy Cross, Krasakova picked up the first singles point with a 6-0, 6-0 defeat at No. 4, while Farima earned a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 1 for her own point. Hack (6-0, 6-0) wrapped up at No. 3, followed by Akimova (6-0, 6-1) at No. 2 and Okuyama (6-0, 6-0) at No. 6. Jonglertrakul clinched the match with a 6-0, 6-2 victory on court No. 5.
 
SCOUTING YALE
The Bulldogs head into Sunday's match with a 5-6 overall record and are coming off both a 4-2 loss to Alabama and a 4-0 win over Troy last Saturday at the Blue Gray National Tennis Classic in Montgomery, Alabama.  
 
Since the 2011 season, UMass and Yale have met six times, with the Bulldogs holding a 5-1 record in the series. The teams' met on Feb. 12, 2011, on the road, with Yale coming away with a 6-1 win. The Minutewomen and Bulldogs last met on Feb. 7, 2020 at a neutral site in New York, New York, for the ECAC Indoor Championships. Yale defeated UMass in the first round, 4-0, on the day.  
 
 
THREE -- COUNT 'EM THREE
Farima has garnered the A-10 Rookie of the Week accolade three times in her career. The freshman went 4-0, going 2-0 in both doubles and singles play, to receive the honor on February 8, before collecting the award again on February 15, after posting a 2-0 record in singles play. The Chisinau, Republic of Moldova, native, tabbed the honor on March 1, after going 4-0 overall on the weekend in the Minutewomen's sweeps of both Seton Hall and Holy Cross. The freshman is 7-1 in singles play, so far, this season, and 6-1 also in doubles competition, going 4-1 with partner Anna Napadiy and 2-0 with Cannon.
