March 18, 2022 | Women's Lacrosse
HANOVER, N.H. – The No. 22 University of Massachusetts women's lacrosse team won a hard-fought battle against the Dartmouth Big Green on Friday afternoon. The Minutewomen improve to 6-2 on the season.
Kendra Harbinger led the Minutewomen with five goals in the contest, followed by Amy Moreau and Fiona McGowan with two goals each.
Kelly Marra, Brinley Anderson, Julia Smith, and Olivia Muscella also contributed goals in the victory.
Sammy Helgeson led the defensive effort for UMass along with Audra Tosone. The pair had four ground balls and two caused turnovers each.
Gina Carroll picked up her sixth win between the pipes this season, notching seven saves for UMass.
Amy Moreau kicked off the scoring for the Minutewomen just over a minute into the contest, but it was quickly answered by the Big Green who kept the score very close during the contest. The Minutewomen scored four unanswered goals to take the 5-1 lead before the close of the first quarter.
During the second frame Dartmouth closed the gap to a 6-4 score in favor of UMass, but Kendra Harbinger answered for the visitors.
Dartmouth continued to battle as they came close again in the third quarter with a score of 10-8, but that would be the closest they would get to the Minutewomen who scored three straight goals for the 13-8 lead with just over five minutes to play in the third.
The Big Green rattled off one more goal to bring the final score to 13-9.
Massachusetts will return to action on Friday, March 25 at St. Bonaventure to open A-10 play. First draw is set for 3 p.m.
