McMahon-Serpone Earns 200th Win, Marra tabs 100th point as Minutewomen Down Siena on the Road

March 15, 2022 | Women's Lacrosse

AMHERST, Mass. – Kelly Marra notched five goals, earning 100 career points as a Minutewoman to lead the No. 22 Massachusetts women's lacrosse program to their fifth win of the season over the Siena College Saints. With the win, head coach Angela McMahon-Serpone earned her 200th win as a head coach.

UMass was led by Kelly Marra who tabbed five goals on six shots in the contest. Kendra Harbinger notched a hat-trick, while Alex Finn and Haley Connaughton each had two goals. Five other Minutewomen scored in the contest, including Paris Melberg who scored her first collegiate goal.

Gina Carroll picked up five ground balls as she defended the net, earning her fifth win of the season. The senior picked up five saves in the victory. Maya Keenan-Gallagher recorded six draw controls in the win to lead UMass.

Mary Soures led the charge for the Saints with five goals, while Nicole McNeely tabbed four goals and four assists.

The Minutewomen put up two straight goals to start the contest, and the Saints kept the score close as the score sat at 5-2 to end the first stanza.

Two unanswered goals began the second quarter again for Massachusetts, as the Saints continued to answer.

It was the 7-0 run to start the third fame that pushed UMass ahead as they earned the 10-goal advantage on a goal from Tessa Sheilds with just over five minutes to play in the third quarter.

Even with an 11-goal cushion, Siena College continued to charge and scored four straight goals to cut the lead to 17-10 in the fourth.

Paris Melberg scored the final goal for UMass, and the Saints would take two more opportunities to bring the final score to 18-12.

Massachusetts will return to action on Friday, March 18 at Dartmouth. First draw is set for 1 p.m.
