Two In A Row: Minutewomen Down Terriers At Home

Alex Finn has season high five goals in contest.
AMHERST, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts women's lacrosse team took their second victory in a row as they downed the Boston University Terriers on Saturday afternoon. The Minutewomen took down BU 21-6 moving to 3-1 on the season.
Six Minutewomen tallied multi-goal outings, led by Alex Finn with seven points on a season high five-goals and two assists. Three others notched hat-tricks in the victory. Kendra Harbinger tabbed six points on three goals and three assists, while Fionna McGowan had four points and Kelly Marra notched three.
Amy Moreau and Julia Smith each had two goals, while Olivia Muscella, Charlotte Clavelli, and Tessa Shields rounded out the scoring for UMass. With the final goal of the contest, Tessa Shields scored her first collegiate goal in the final seconds of the fourth quarter.
Audra Tosone once again won the draw control battle; tying her season high of six draw controls while she and Sammy Helgeson tied a team high four ground balls each.
The Minutewomen held a 46-12 advantage in shots, putting 36 on goal. Massachusetts also went 9-10 on clears and caused 15 Terrier turnovers.
Gina Carroll notched 54 minutes between the pipes to take the victory with three saves.
Lauren Kaye led the effort for the Terriers with three goals, on three attempts.
Massachusetts set out on an 8-0 run to close the first quarter before BU opened the second frame with their first goal of the contest.
The visitors brought the score within six goals in the final minute of the first half before Kendra Harbinger gave UMass the 11-4 lead heading into the break.
The day's leaders in Marra, Finn, and Harbinger opened the second half with four unanswered goals between them before Kaye scored for BU bringing the score to 15-5 with 5:42 to play in the third.
After another five-goal streak, UMass led 20-5 with less than four minutes to play in the contest and would hold their lead for the 21-6 victory.
The Minutewomen will take the field again on March 5 against UConn. First draw is set for 1 p.m.
