AMHERST, Mass. -Â The University of Massachusetts swimming and diving team begins weekend competition tomorrow at the Boston College Invitational. The Minutemen and Minutewomen begin competition at 9:30 a.m. in the Margot Connell Recreation Center.
Massachusetts Victory
The Minutewomen won the Colgate Invitational last weekend in Hamilton, N.Y. with a team score of 913. The win marked the second straight win at the Colgate Invitational for the Minutewomen as the concluded the final day of action with four individual wins and 10 top-three finishes.
Three Wins For Bia
Beatriz Olivieri won three individual events at the Colgate Invitational, including a 500 Free win with a time of 5:01.87 on the final day of competition. On Friday, Olivieri claimed the top spot in a pair of events, taking the 200 Free with a time of 1:56.16 before taking the 200 Fly with a time of 2:08.18.
Fast Freshmen
Freshmen Joe Tonna and Sammy Quigg claimed a one-two finish in the 100 Free on teh final day of the Colgate Invitational, led by Tonna's swim of 47.66. The duo combined with Juan Montori and Eric Eastham to end the weekend with a 400 Free Relay win.
Diving Double
Emma Petrovich claimed both diving events for the Minutewomen last weekend, opening the season with the top score in the 1-Meter Dive before winning the 3-Meter Dive on Saturday with a score of 254.85.
MacAttack
Jamie MacDonald recorded three, top-three finishes at the Colgate Invitational highlighted by a winning swim of 4:12.42 in the 400 IM on Friday. The senior added a third-place finish in the 200 Fly on the opening day and followed with a top-three finish in the 200 IM on Saturday.
Looking Ahead
Both teams return to the competition pool on Saturday, Oct. 29 at 1 p.m. at Boston University before heading to New Haven, Conn. for a meet at Yale on Nov. 5. UMass concludes the 2022 portion of the season at the Terrier Invitational on Nov. 18-20.
