Mikayla Panko joins the UMass Softball staff following five seasons on Danielle Henderson’s staff at UMass Lowell.
AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts Head Softball Coach Danielle Henderson announced the addition of Mikayla Panko to the coaching staff on Tuesday afternoon. Panko, a 2015 UMass alumnae, returns to Amherst following five seasons on Henderson's staff at UMass Lowell.
"I'm excited and honored for the opportunity to return to my alma mater to work with the next generation of the UMass Softball family," said Panko. "My time at UMass as a student-athlete has a lasting impact on me and I am looking forward to helping cultivate the same positive and winning environment I got to experience as a student-athlete here."
Panko helped the River Hawks reach the America East Conference tournament all three years that they were eligible following the move from Division II to Division I. Under Panko's tutelage, the River Hawk outfielders recorded a combined .973 fielding percentage during the 2020 and 2021 seasons.
"I'm excited to have Mikayla as part of this staff," said Henderson. "She has the same love for the University as I do and I know she will work hard to help this team succeed."
Panko graduated from UMass in 2015 with a bachelor's in sociology and a minor in psychology and was part of a UMass squad that won the Atlantic 10 Championship in 2012 and earned a spot in the NCAA Tournament at the Columbia Regional.
