Men's lacrosse senior lauded for nine-point game
AMHERST, Mass. - The United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) recognized UMass men's lacrosse senior Kevin Tobin on the USILA Team of the Week, as announced by the organization on Tuesday. It is the second accolade for Tobin on Tuesday after the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) announced him as the CAA Player of the Week earlier in the day.
Tobin was pivotal in the team's 21-14 victory at Fairfield on Saturday as he provided a single-game career best nine points via three goals and six assists. It was the most points in one game by a UMass men's lacrosse player since Kyle Smith totaled nine (six goals, three assists) in a 16-8 win over Delaware on April 26, 2013.
Tobin, a native of Reading, Massachusetts, earned eight of his nine points during the second half as Massachusetts turned its 8-7 halftime advantage into the seven-goal victory. Tobin split his second half points evenly between the third and fourth quarters.
In addition to setting a single-game career best in points, Tobin eclipsed 100 career points during the win. He reached 100 with his fourth point of the day - a goal scored in the third quarter with 11 minutes, six seconds to play.
Massachusetts concludes its regular season with a Fri., April 30 game at Delaware. First faceoff is set for 5 p.m. on Lax Sports Network.
