The Latest Round of Schedule Updates
Massachusetts shuffled its upcoming schedule recently, including the addition of Thursday's game at Lock Haven. The Minutewomen were forced to travel to Lock Haven for both games against the Eagles this season due to Lock Haven's university policy on teams not being allowed to travel outside of the state for competition.

Additionally, Saturday's game at La Salle changed to a Noon start time, the Tues., March 30 meeting with UAlbany was postponed and the second game at Lock haven moved to Sat., April 3.

Visit the team's official schedule page and social media channels for the most up-to-date information on the upcoming UMass field hockey schedule and results.

Statistically Speaking
Massachusetts accumulated a 4-1 record through five games this season, marking the best to a season since 2013, when the Minutewomen were 5-0. The team only yielded seven goals to opponents through five games this season. The seven goals allowed are the fewest since 2013 (five).

Sophomore Jess Beech leads the team in points with seven on a team-high three goals and one assist. Senior Georgie McTear and freshman Josephine Ang have scored two goals each for UMass, while three other Minutewomen have notched one goal. Freshman goalie Brooke Richards, along with sophomore center back Josie Rossbach, has earned a 1.40 goals-against-average, which ranks second in the Atlantic 10 Conference for both the team and Richards individually.

Massachusetts in the Rankings
UMass is nationally-ranked No. 20 in the second Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I Coaches Poll this spring, reveled Monday. It marks the second consecutive week Massachusetts appeared in the top-20 ranking after the team debuted at No. 19 during the first weekly poll of 2021.

Weekly Awards Honor
Sophomore Jess Beech was named Atlantic 10 Player of the Week on Tues., March 16. Beech tabbed the honor for her pair of goals across the 2-1 victories over Maine and UMass Lowell. The Marlow, England, native took only two shots during the weekend, converting her first collegiate penalty stroke attempt in the matchup against Maine on Fri., March 12, to equalize the score at one apiece in the 36th minute. Beech also tallied the game-winning goal in the 43rd minute against UMass Lowell on Sun., March 14.

Team Leadership Announced
UMass field hockey elected a four-woman leadership group ahead of the 2021 spring season. The quartet includes team co-captains Sophie Johnson and Georgie McTear, as well as Jess Beech and Emilie Keij. The team elected the captains and leadership group through a player-wide vote.

A Dependable Center "Bach"
Now-sophomore Josie Rossbach started at center back for the Minutewomen during the 2019 season and played a team-high 1,181 minutes of a possible 1,226 during the 20-game season (96.3 percent). Her total time played breaks down to 59 minutes, five seconds per appearance. She is the first Minutewoman to start at center back as a true freshman since Lauren Allymohamed did so in 2011.
