Men's Lacrosse Begins Vs. Cancer Foundation Fundraising

Team to participate in 4-Mile Challenge on Fri., Oct. 9
AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts men's lacrosse continues its partnership with the Vs. Cancer Foundation in 2020 as participants in the Vs. Cancer 4-Mile Challenge. Donations raised through the Vs. Cancer 4-Mile Challenge will contribute to the fight against pediatric cancer.
"We want to support Vs. Cancer and the children and families affected now more than ever," head coach Greg Cannella said. "Please help by joining our team in our venture to aid our local pediatric cancer wards. Partnership with Vs. Cancer is an opportunity to help those in need."
Massachusetts aims to raise $10,000 toward the $40,000 Vs. Cancer 4-Mile Challenge initiative. Donations are being accepted through the UMass men's lacrosse page on the Vs. Cancer website currently.
In addition to donating, individuals can participate in the Vs. Cancer 4-Mile Challenge by registering as a participant, rallying support from friends, family and followers and completing the 4-mile run – virtually or in-person – while following proper health and safety guidelines from state and local government. UMass participants will individually run their respective 4-Mile Challenge virtually or in-person on Oct. 9.
Created by pediatric brain cancer survivor and former collegiate baseball player Chase Jones, Vs. Cancer empowers sports programs, individuals and groups to help kids with cancer. As a signature fundraising campaign of the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation, Vs. Cancer proceeds help fund child life programs in local hospitals and groundbreaking research to cure pediatric brain tumors, the deadliest childhood cancer.
2020 marks the eighth consecutive year UMass men's lacrosse student-athletes and staff participated in the annual Vs. Cancer Foundation fundraiser, dating back to the 2013-14 academic year.
