August 09, 2020 | Men's Lacrosse

Second straight championship for Paparo in as many professional seasons

HERRIMAN, Utah - University of Massachusetts men's lacrosse alumnus Isaac Paparo '19 won the Premier Lacrosse League Champsionhip with the Whipsnakes Lacrosse Club for the second consecutive season on Sunday. The Whipsnakes defeated Chaos LC, 12-6, in the PLL Championship Game hosted at Zions Bank Stadium in Herriman, Utah.

The Whipsnakes went undefeated in six games during the PLL Championship Series, an abbreviated season completed over a two-week span that included four games in group play and a seven-team playoff slate. As the No. 1 seed in the playoffs, the Whipsnakes bypassed the first round and advanced directly to the semifinals where they defeated No. 4 Redwoods LC, 13-12, in overtime.

Paparo had two groundballs and an assist during the tournament. He is the second alumnus to win a professional lacrosse championship this summer after Ben Spencer '19 and the Boston Cannons claimed the Major League Lacrosse Championship over the Denver Outlaws, 13-10, on July 26.

With Paparo and Spencer taking home their respective championships, Massachusetts is one of only three collegiate programs with MLL and PLL champions in 2020 - joined by Maryland and Virginia.

Paparo and the Whipsnakes also won the PLL Championship during the league's inaugural season in 2019.
