Men's Lacrosse Ranked No. 12 In Final Inside Lacrosse Media Poll

UMass closed shortened season with 5-2 overall record; only ranked team in CAA
AMHERST, Mass. - Inside Lacrosse announced its final 2020 season national rankings on Mon., March 23 and placed the University of Massachusetts men's lacrosse program at No. 12. Massachusetts was the only Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) team ranked or receiving votes.
UMass went 5-2 during the shortened season with victories over UAlbany, No. 12 Ohio State, LIU, UMass Lowell and No. 1 Yale. The victory over the top-ranked Bulldogs on Sat., Feb. 29 marked the first in program history over the No. 1 team in the nation.
Inside Lacrosse's top-five included Syracuse (1), Cornell (2), Princeton (3), North Carolina (4) and Yale (5). A full poll is available here.
Junior attack Chris Connolly led the team with 23 points via nine goals and 14 assists while junior midfielder and attack Kevin Tobin tallied 21 points on 10 goals and 11 assists. Senior midfielder Jeff Trainor (20 points, 14 goals, 6 assists), sophomore attack Gabriel Procyk (19-15-4) and redshirt senior midfielder Billy Philpott (16-14-2) rounded out the top five scorers.
Senior close defenseman Jackson Suboch produced 19 groundballs and 10 caused turnovers as the lone defenseman to start and appear in all seven contests. Fellow veteran defenseman Sam Eisenstadt opened the year with nine groundballs and six caused turnovers through four games; however, injury halted his season following the win at UMass Lowell.
First and second-year contributors enhanced the success team across the lineup. Freshman faceoff specialist Zack Hochman finished 99-of-169 with 52 groundballs while rookie goalie Matt Knote had a .526 save percentage and 10.61 goals-against average as the starter in all seven games. Freshman midfielder Mike Tobin contributed 11 points (six goals, five assists) alongside five groundballs and as many turnovers. On the defensive end, sophomore Adam Towey provided 11 groundballs and seven caused turnovers in six games played and started while rookie Jake Dulac notched 15 groundballs and seven caused turnovers in seven games played, including four starts at close defense.
