Massachusetts Selected As Preseason Favorite In CAA
  • In a vote of the league's head coaches, University of Massachusetts men's lacrosse was tabbed the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Preseason Coaches Poll No. 1 team.
  • UMass took the top spot by the narrowest of margins, with 23 points to Towson's 22 points. Both sides received three of the available six first place votes.
  • It was the first time since the 2012 CAA Preseason Coaches Poll that a single point separated the No. 1 and No. 2 selections.

Three Selected Preseason All-CAA

  • Massachusetts junior attack Chris Connolly, senior midfielder Jeff Trainor and junior close defenseman Sam Eisenstadt earned selection as members of the 2020 Preseason All-CAA Team, as announced by the league on Jan. 29.
  • Connolly played in and started 14 games at attack as a sophomore in 2019, during which he posted a team-high 63 points on 27 goals and 36 assists. The Glastonbury, Connecticut, native won NEILA All-Region Second Team and All-CAA Second Team for his efforts.
  • Trainor, a Billerica, Massachusetts, native tallied 37 points in the midfield during 2019 via 24 goals and 13 assists, with time split between the first and second lines. He took home NEILA All-Region First Team and All-CAA First Team.
  • Eisenstadt provided 20 groundballs and caused 10 turnovers during 14 games played and started during his sophomore season in 2019, his first making starting appearances. Eisenstadt, a Needham, Massachusetts, native appeared on the All-CAA Second Team alongside Connolly.

Firepower Retained

  • Massachusetts returns 89.0 percent of its goal production and 95.0 percent of its assists from one season ago. This makes UMass one of only five teams in the country returning at least 89.0 percent of its goals and assists.
  • The other four teams are Cleveland State, Dartmouth, Harvard and Rutgers.

Brick Squad
  • The University of Massachusetts finished third in NCAA Division I in scoring defense with only 8.87 goals allowed per game during 2019.
  • The strongest performances on the season include only two goals allowed to Utah and four given up to UMass Lowell in back-to-back games.
  • Senior goalie Sean Sconone, who ranked first in the nation for save percentage (.613) and third best for lowest goals-against average (8.61), backstopped the defense.
