THE OPENING TIP: THE MASSACHUSETTS-NEW HAMPSHIRE PREVIEW
 • A busy run of three games in six days continues for the UMass women's basketball team as the Minutewomen trek to New Hampshire on Dec. 10 for a 6 p.m. tilt inside Lundholm Gymnasium.
• Brendan Glasheen (play-by-play) and John Scheinman (color) will have the call live on ESPN+.
• Massachusetts was last in action on Tuesday, opening both the Atlantic 10 and home schedules with a 79-69 victory over Rhode Island. A balanced effort saw four Minutewomen finish in double-figure scoring, led by 19 points apiece courtesy of junior Destiney Philoxy and sophomore Sydney Taylor. In concert with a lockdown defensive effort, UMass kept the Rams off the scoreboard for the first 5:24 of the game and jumped ahead 12-0 off the opening tip.
• It was a strong showing for the backcourt duo of Philoxy and freshman Ber'Nyah Mayo as the pair combined for 37 points, 10 assists and seven steals, including career-highs for Mayo in points (18) and minutes (37). Philoxy was on the floor for all 40 minutes, contributing a season-best 19 points plus six dimes.
• UMass never trailed in the URI game–in fact, outside of the overtime loss at Boston College on Nov. 29, the Minutewomen have only played from behind for 7:23 of game time at this early point in this season.
• The Minutewomen and UNH last met in Amherst on Dec. 5, 2019 with Massachusetts eking out a 67-65 triumph. Appearing to be sealed in favor of UMass, the Wildcats nearly came back from an 18-point deficit in the final seven minutes, getting as close as one in the last 10 seconds.
• The Wildcats sit at 1-3, last splitting a weekend America East series over Dec. 5-6 at home vs. NJIT. After dropping a 78-57 result Saturday afternoon, UNH rebounded for a 59-53 victory over the Highlanders on Sunday. Amanda Torres (20 pts) and Brooke Kane (14 pts, 11 reb) paced the Wildcats in the win, the first for head coach Kelsey Hogan.
