Men's lacrosse alumnus, nation's most outstanding goalie award winner joins professional ranks
DALLAS - Major League Lacrosse's Dallas Rattlers franchise signed University of Massachusetts men's lacrosse alumnus and 2019 Ensign C. Markland Kelly Jr. Most Outstanding Goalie Award recipient Sean Sconone from the organization's undrafted collegiate lacrosse player pool on Thursday.
Sconone becomes the fifth former UMass men's lacrosse standout signed into the professional ranks for the 2019 summer season. He joins James Fahey (2011-14) and Noah Rak (2015-18) in the MLL while Will Manny (2010-13) and Isaac Paparo (2016-19) are in the midst of the inaugural Premier Lacrosse League campaign.
Sconone was the nation's leader in save percentage (.615) during 2019 and the only competitor above 60.0 percent across the country, more than three-tenths of a percentage point ahead of second place (Loyola's Jacob Stover, .583). Sconone also ended the year third in goals-against average (8.61), the top mark in the CAA, and ninth in saves per game (13.40). A defensive stalwart for the Minutemen, Sconone also grabbed 40 groundballs and caused 13 turnovers as a senior.
The Rattlers began their 2019 season on Sun., June 2 in Frisco, Texas, against the Chesapeake Bayhawks. Dallas plays its second game of the season against Fahey and the Boston Cannons on Sun., June 9.
