Game Notes Massachusetts // Siena

The Opening Tip
• Winners in four straight and seven of its last eight, University of Massachusetts women's basketball is back at the Mullins Center and Jack Leaman Court on Sun., Dec. 15 as Siena makes a visit to Amherst. Game time is slated for 2 p.m. and the contest will be streamed on ESPN+, with Colin Cronin and Nathan Strauss on the microphone.

• UMass leads the all-time series with Siena by a 5-3 margin, but is looking to avenge a 64-59 setback to the Saints last season. A victory on Sunday would be the first against Siena since Dec. 21, 2011.

• The Minutewomen are coming off of a 58-45 win at in-state foe Boston University early on Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 11–and completed the group's best start to a season since the 2006-07 squad opened up 8-2.

• UMass never trailed after halftime against the Terriers and a strong defensive effort helped put the game out of reach in the final 20 minutes, limiting BU to four offensive rebounds and no second chance points compared to nine boards in the first half.

• Senior Hailey Leidel had another game-high 25-point performance at BU, moving up to No. 4 on the Massachusetts career scoring list (1,527) in 102 games. Leidel needs 152 points to tie Melissa Gurile (1992-96) for a spot in the top three. She has amassed at least 21 points in three of UMass' last four games.

• Leidel is also one of 17 players in program history with at least 1,000 points plus 500 rebounds. She has made at least one three-point field goal in 15 straight games since Feb. 24, and 32 of her last 33 games dating back to Dec. 7, 2018.

• Freshman Maeve Donnelly has made an immediate post impact for the Minutewomen, averaging 3.4 blocks per game which ranks No. 7 in the country and No. 2 among freshmen. Donnelly's season block total (34) entered the weekend either matching or above nine team totals in the Atlantic 10 Conference.

• Donnelly set the single-game program record with 10 blocks vs. Holy Cross (Dec. 8) and also pulled down 12 rebounds for her first career double-double. She was just three points short (7) of what would have been the first triple-double at UMass since Nov. 17, 2000.

• In the eight games since UMass fell to Providence on Nov. 9, the squad is averaging over 74 points per game with a +17 scoring margin. Leidel leads the attack averaging 19.5 points in that span followed up by sophomore Destiney Philoxy (14 ppg). Both Donnelly (6.8 reb/gm) and fellow freshman Angelique Ngalakulondi (6 reb/gm) have sparked the group on the glass in the same time.
