Minutemen Shutout At Home By Saint Louis

UMass is back in action on Wednesday at Davidson before hosting Fordham next Saturday.
AMHERST, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts men's soccer team had a couple of chances early to net the opening goal, but could not convert as Saint Louis came away with a 2-0 win on Saturday afternoon at Rudd Field. The Minutemen (4-6-0 Overall, 0-2-0 Atlantic 10) were led offensively by James McPherson's four shots on the game.
Defender Ryan Saul helped keep the game scoreless in the 18th-minute with a solid defensive play, falling back to the near post to clear away a certain goal out of play for a corner kick.
McPherson nearly picked up an assist in the 28th-minute, finding Benjamin Wiemann in the box for a shot from 14-yards out that went just wide out left. UMass kept the attack going as Tyler Mann fired a shot before McPherson added another attempt within five minutes of the Wiemann shot.
Saint Louis broke the scoreless contest in the 39th-minute with a David Viox goal from Simon Becher and Leo Novaes as the Billikens found the back of the net from 14-yards out. The visitors added their second and final goal in the 70th-minute as Becher scored from in close off the pass from Novaes.
The Minutemen continue Atlantic 10 play on Wednesday when they hit the road for a 7 p.m. matchup at Davidson before returning home to host Fordham on Saturday, Oct. 12 at 1 p.m.
