Men’s Soccer Wraps Up Exhibition Schedule Against Northeastern
August 18, 2018 | Men's Soccer
The final exhibition of the 2018 preseason saw Northeastern win 2-0 in a weather shortened match.
AMHERST, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts men's soccer team wrapped up their 2018 preseason slate on Saturday afternoon at McGuirk Alumni Stadium with a 2-0 exhibition loss to Northeastern in a game that was originally scheduled to be played at 2 p.m. on Rudd Field. The game ended with 23:23 left on the clock as the friendly match was called due to lightning and impending weather.
Alec Supinski scored both of the Huskies' goals, putting in the first one midway through the first half before getting his second goal with 26 minutes left in the exhibition.
Both squads finished the afternoon with five shots each as UMass created a pair of chances with just over 19 minutes left in the first half. Davis Smith headed a shot just wide to the left side of the net that was almost turned back into the net by Jared McCleary before sailing wide again. The Minutemen had a chance to break through on a Chandler O'Dwyer corner kick at the 23:30 mark just before the game entered the lightning delay as Yosuke Hanya headed a shot just wide.
The Minutemen will officially open up their 2018 campaign on the road with the first of two games away from home beginning with UMass Lowell on Friday, Aug. 24 before eventually returning home for the home opener against Saint Peter's on Aug. 31.
