Sconone Collects Second USILA Team Of The Week Accolade

Junior goalie won CAA Championship Most Outstanding Player with 27 saves in two-game week
AMHERST, Mass. - University of Massachusetts men's lacrosse junior goalie Sean Sconone (East Islip, N.Y.) earned his second USILA Team of the Week spot on the season Tuesday, as announced by the organization. Sconone won the award following his 27 saves combined against Hofstra (11) and Towson (16) during the CAA Championship.
Sconone, the CAA Championship Most Outstanding Player, backstopped Massachusetts to the 2018 CAA Championship Title with two strong showings in the cage. Sconone limited Hofstra in the semifinal round on Thurs., May 3 as the Maroon and White recorded a 10-6 victory before he put forth a dominant effort in the title game two days later.
Against Towson, Sconone turned aside 16 of the Tigers attempts, including nine in the pivotal third and fourth quarters as Massachusetts turned its one-goal halftime advantage into its 12-8 victory.
His CAA Championship performances marked a continuation of his resurgence in goal over the last month. During his most recent six games, Sconone is 6-0 with a .726 save percentage and 5.52 goals-against average.
It is Sconone's second appearance on the USILA Team of the Week. He was also awarded a spot following his 20 save outing in the 11-4 win at Fairfield on Sat., April 21.
Massachusetts continues its season in the NCAA Championship First Round. The Minutemen face the Yale Bulldogs in New Haven, Connecticut, on Sat., May 12 at Noon. ESPNU will broadcast the contest live.
