Stefanoni Earns 100th Win As Minutewomen Sweep La Salle

March 25, 2018 | Softball

Head Coach Kristi Stefanoni earned her 100th career win as UMass completed the A-10 opening weekend with a sweep.

AMHERST, Mass. – Head Coach Kristi Stefanoni reached a career milestone with her 100th win at the University of Massachusetts as the Minutewomen shutout La Salle 8-0 in a five-inning win on Sunday afternoon at Sortino Field to complete the series sweep. UMass (14-10 Overall, 3-0 Atlantic 10) put together 10 hits to reach double-digits for the fourth straight game at the plate, winning four in a row as they head into the second weekend of league play.

Meg Colleran went 2-0 in the circle during the series after putting in 3.0 innings of work while allowing just one base hit for the second consecutive outing. Colleran's pair of wins this weekend moved the senior over the 50-win mark as she ranks 10th on the UMass career list for most career wins with 51.

The UMass offense came alive for seven runs in the third inning after going ahead 1-0 in the first with the help of a La Salle error that allowed Jena Cozza to score from second for the first run of the day.

Cozza and Erin Stacevicz opened up the third inning with a pair of base hits, beginning with a Cozza single through the left side followed by a Stacevicz double to right center field. Kaycee Carbone hit her sixth home run of the season the following at-bat, sending a three-run shot over the wall in right field to give UMass a 4-0 advantage.

UMass kept it going in the inning, loading the bases with a pair of walks and a Kaitlyn Stavinoha single for Jackie Kelley with two outs. Kelley continued her weekend with her fifth hit of the series to drive in two more runs, sending a single over second base into the outfield to put UMass up 6-0.

Stacevicz drove in the final two runs on one of her three hits in the final game of the series, singling to center field to bring in Kelley and Amy Smith for the seventh and eighth runs of the game. Stacevicz a perfect 3-of-3 at the plate with a run scored as the junior totaled eight hits in the three-game series to open up league competition.

The Minutewomen continue A-10 play this weekend on the road at George Washington, beginning with a Friday doubleheader scheduled to begin with at 1 p.m.
