Staying Power
Head coach Greg Cannella now approaches career win No. 200 as he enters his 24th season at the helm of the Minuteman program, one of the longest tenured coaches active in Division I men's lacrosse. He is the second-longest tenured head coach at one institution and fifth nationally in terms of total years spent as a Division I head coach. Cannella began his time as the leader of the team ahead of the 1995 season and, since then, won 10 or more games during seven campaigns. He guided the Minutemen to eight NCAA Tournament appearances and currently stands at 194-136 overall (58.8 win percentage).

When Cannella was hired, the following had not been invented yet...
• Nintendo 64 (1996)

Put The Suitcases Away
UMass men's lacrosse plays five consecutive home games at Garber Field between Tues., Feb. 13 and Sat., March 10, which equates to the second-longest home game streak in NCAA Division I men's lacrosse this year. The only team to play more consecutive games at their on-campus facility is Fairfield, who will host six straight opponents at Rafferty Stadium. The Maroon and White will not leave the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for a game until the squad treks to Providence, R.I., for a game at Brown on Sat., March 24.

Carr Shifts Offensive Gears
After spending two years as a starter on attack, Buddy Carr's role adjusted to that of a first-line midfielder during the opening three games of 2018. In his new role, Carr owns 13 points via five goals and eight assists. Those eight assists already tie for Carr's single-season personal assist for helpers.

C.C. Puts The CAA On Notice
Freshman attack Chris Connolly won CAA Rookie of the Week on Tues., Feb. 20 following his four-goal performance in the 13-9 win over Sacred Heart. It is the first weekly accolade for the Minutemen in 2018.

Connolly began his career with a pair of points via two assists at No. 16 Army on Feb. 10. He added another two-point game against Harvard with a goal and assist. He is the only Minuteman with at least two points in every game.

If It's At The Net It's In The Net
Jeff Trainor scored on all four of his on-target attempts over the opening three games. It included one goal each at No. 16 Army and against Sacred Heart before the sophomore second-line midfielder potted two tallies against Harvard.

Big Games From Buddy Carr
Senior midfielder Buddy Carr provided a touchdown and extra point on three goals and four assists against Sacred Heart. His personal-best seven points came on his fourth collegiate hat trick and a career high in assists. It marked the most points in a game since Grant Whiteway had eight on seven goals and an assist during a 16-11 win over Providence on March 11, 2014. Carr immediately followed with six points via two goals and a career-high-tying four assists against Harvard. They marked his second and third games of five or more points as a Minuteman.

Save By Sconone!
Junior goalie Sean Sconone reset his career high in saves during each of the first two games of the season, including 14 at No. 16 Army West Point and 15 over the win against Sacred Heart. Sconone's previous one-game best was his 13-stop showings against Delaware on April 2, 2016 and Hofstra on April 23, 2016.

4G Network
Freshman attack Chris Connolly scored four times against Sacred Heart in his Garber Field debut and collected three groundballs - two of which led to additional UMass tallies. His third goal of the day came on a highlight-reel behind-the-back, underhanded shovel shot. It marks the second straight season where a UMass freshman potted four or more goals in a game, after Jesse Leung had five against Drexel during the 2017 season.

First Goal Of The Season Club
Sophomore attack Devin Spencer scored the team's first goal of the season with his tally at No. 16 Army on Feb. 10, 2018. He converted following the game's second faceoff on a pass by freshman attack Chris Connolly.

Devin older brother, junior midfielder Ben Spencer, had the team's first goal of the season in 2016. They are the only two active Minutemen with a season-opening goal.
