Brown Nets Two As Minutemen Shutout George Mason 2-0

DeAndrae Brown scored twice to bring his goal total to six on the season in the win.
AMHERST, Mass. – DeAndrae Brown scored a pair of goals on Saturday afternoon as the University of Massachusetts men's soccer team picked up a 2-0 shutout win over George Mason at Rudd Field. The Minutemen (5-5-2 Overall, 1-2-0 Atlantic 10) found the back of the net three minutes into their second home conference matchup to the season on their way to firing 19 shots to give them an 18 shot per game average over the last three.
Brown's fifth goal of the season started the scoring for UMass in the third minute as the senior found the back of the net from three yards out off an assist from Yosuke Hanya. Hanya's fourth assist of the year came after the junior midfielder spun around a Patriot defender before dribbling to the end line to find Brown for the score.
Jack Fulton attempted eight shots for the Minutemen, including a pair of shots in the seventh and 14th-minutes as the senior headed one just over the crossbar prior to blasting a shot from 22-yards out that hit the left post. Alec-Michael Petrizzi took three shots in his first career start, putting one on target in the 20th-minute on a free kick that curved into the arms of the George Mason goalkeeper.
Brown added his sixth of the season and second of the game in the 36th-minute after Hanya beat the Patriot defenders to the box where he was fouled to earn the penalty kick that Brown calmly put into the bottom right corner of the net to give the Minutemen a 2-0 advantage in a half where they outshot the Patriots 11-2.
The UMass defense picked up their fourth shutout of the season as they held Mason to just four shots on the afternoon while Marvyn Dorchin saved both shots on target that he faced to pick up his first UMass shutout.
The Minutemen will continue Atlantic 10 play on Wednesday as they head to Kingston, R.I. to take on Rhode Island before a matchup against a ranked Fordham team on the road Saturday.
