Last Time Out
UMass remained unbeaten following week two of the Atlantic 10 schedule with a 1-0 win over St. Bonaventure followed by a 3-1 road win at La Salle. Sini Laaksonen scored the game-winner over the Bonnies, while Jenna Thomas had a pair of goals in the win at La Salle. Aside from keeping UMass unbeaten in A-10 play, the two wins extended the Minutewomen's win streak to eight consecutive matches. The goal allowed to the Explorers was just the second given up in that stretch of 720 minutes of game action.
Alumnae Weekend To Honor Final Four Teams
The upcoming weekend will also be the program's Alumnae Weekend with the program holding special recognition of its Final Four teams. UMass reached the NCAA Final Four in 1983, 1984, 1985, 1986, 1987 (National Finalists), and 1993 as one of the nation's most dominate programs of that era. The 1987 squad fell 1-0 to North Carolina in the National Championship game which was hosted at McGuirk Stadium.
Best Win Streak Since 1997
The eight-match win streak matches the longest since the 1997 squad did the same. The 4-0 start is also the best since that season which saw the Minutewomen post a perfect 11-0 record in league play. Currently, UMass' win streak is the fourth longest in the country. The Minutewomen are tied with Memphis and behind Vanderbilt (11), Washington State (10) and Georgetown (9).
Leading The A-10 And The NCAA
Through 11 matches, UMass is putting up prolific numbers this year. As a team, UMass leads the A-10 in 11 different statistical categories including scoring offense (2.82 goals/game) which also ranks fourth nationally. The Minutewomen also lead the league in goals-against-average which is 14th in the NCAA (0.46 GAA). Nationally, UMass is third in total points (101), 9th in total goals (31) and second in total assists (39). Individually, Peyton Ryan leads the league in GAA, which is 18th nationally, and save percentage. Erin Doster leads the A-10 in total assists, while Rebeca Frisk, Jenny Hipp, and Lauren Bonavita are all tied for fifth in total points (15).
Next Up
UMass will continue it's split travel schedule with a match at Davidson on Thursday, Oct. 11 (7 PM) before returning home to host VCU at Rudd Field on Sunday, Oct. 14 (1 PM). The match against the Rams will be the Minutewomen's Senior Day and will be streamed live on ESPN+.
