Massachusetts Women’s Soccer Shuts Out NJIT, 1-0

Kayla Nohasiarisoa scored the lone goal for the Minutewomen.
AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts women's soccer shut out NJIT, 1-0, on Thursday afternoon at Rudd Field. Sophomore midfielder Kayla Nohasiarisoa notched the game-winning goal for her first of the season.
The Minutewomen improve to 2-0-0 overall, while the Highlanders moved to 0-1-1 on the year.
Massachusetts scored the lone goal of the match in the 29th minute. Monica Curry chased down the ball just outside of the goal box and crossed it out in front of the net. An NJIT defender headed the ball out, but it bounced off the top of the crossbar and back in front of the net, as Nohasiarisoa just tapped the ball into the back of the net.
In the second half, both teams had a few scoring opportunities, but UMass was able to hold on to its 1-0 victory.
Massachusetts outshot NJIT, 21-10, including 8-2 on goal. The Minutewomen also had the advantage in corners, 6-3, over the Highlanders.
Caroline Dickson and Martina Sanz Bravo led the team in shots with four each, as Dickson placed three on goal and Sanz Bravo had two. Five other Minutewomen posted two shots, including Nohasiarisoa, who had both her shots on target.
Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Leah Nisenfeld made two saves on the day, playing the full 90 minutes in net. Penelope Krieger of NJIT saw action for 90 minutes, stopping seven shots and allowing one goal.
UMass heads to Cambridge, Massachusetts, on Monday, August 24, for a 7 p.m. contest at Harvard on ESPN+.
