GAME INFORMATION
No. 15 Towson 11, Massachusetts 8
Records: Massachusetts (4-6, 1-1 CAA) • No. 15 Towson (6-3, 2-0)
Location: Johnny Unitas Stadium; Towson, Md.
Attendance: 1,006
HIGHLIGHTS
FIRST QUARTER
Defense controlled play in the first quarter, though Towson earned a 2-0 lead after 15 minutes on goals by Jon Mazza and Dylan Kinnear. Mazza did not break the scoreless tie until more than halfway through the frame, when he tallied an unassisted goal from straightaway with six minutes, 32 seconds to play. Kinnear converted during one of Towson's three extra-man opportunities in the frame with a doorstep shot.
Massachusetts goalie D.J. Smith limited the damage with three saves in the frame while Noah Rak won two of the three faceoffs.
SECOND QUARTER
Towson extended its lead to six goals before Gianni Bianchin put the Minutemen on the board. Bianchin raced from the right post behind to X and around the left post before he sent an underhanded shot into the right side of the cage.
After a Mike Lynch goal offset Bianchin's tally, Dan Muller put in back-to-back shots and moved the Minutemen back within 7-3 of Towson with three minutes left in the frame. Buddy Carr fed Muller for the first of those two before Grant Consoletti picked up his 10th assist of the year on Muller's second strike.
However, the Tigers posted the final mark of the half for an 8-3 lead at the break.
THIRD QUARTER
Bogart put his name in the scoring column with 12:42 to go in the third, but the Tigers followed with one from Brian Bolewicki. During a two-man advantage, Bianchin netted his second conversion of the day with a sidearm shot from the left side of the cage as Massachusetts cut within 9-5 at the 6:58 mark. Ben Spencer collected the assist on the play.
Joe Seider's second of the day put Towson ahead, 10-5, but Muller rallied the offense one last time in the third with his third goal of the afternoon. Spencer slotted a pass to Muller on the move, which Muller corralled and fired into the top-right corner for his third career hat trick.
FOURTH QUARTER
Carr's 10th tally of the year made it a 10-7 deficit for the Minutemen with 8:12 still to play. After a James Marusi groundball started a transition series, play found its way to Bogart at the left post for a one-on-one with Towson goalie Josh Miller. Bogart wisely opted to dish across the crease to an unguarded Carr for the slam dunk.
Carr produced his second of the game after Zach Goodrich scored for Towson. Carr converted on a jump-shot from the middle of the field. It moved the Minutemen within 11-8 with 2:52 to go, but Massachusetts could not muster another tally.
