Women's Lax Heads to Davidson, Hosts Richmond

Minutewomen take to the road on Friday night to face Wildcats before hosting Spiders.
AMHERST, Mass. - After a record-breaking weekend to open Atlantic 10 play, the UMass women's lacrosse team looks to keep its momentum rolling this Friday, April 7 at Davidson before returning home to face long-time league rival Richmond on Sunday, April 9. Friday's road game against the Wildcats is set for a 6 p.m. start, while the home game at Garber Field against the Spiders will begin at 12:30 p.m. Both games will be streamed live on the Atlantic 10 Digital Network.
Last weekend, the Minutewomen (7-3, 2-0 A-10) opened league play with a 19-8 win over VCU before taking a 24-14 win over Saint Joseph's extending UMass' current win streak to six games. Overall, the Maroon and White have won an NCAA record 47 consecutive regular-season games against Atlantic 10 foes.
UMass saw several individual and team records fall last weekend as well. Hannah Murphy set a new program record for draw controls with 18 against the Rams before Hannah Burnett set a new record with eight goals and tied a record with 10 points against the Hawks. UMass also tied the program record for goals in a game (24) against Saint Joseph's and set new standards for assists (19) and points (43) in a game.
Burnett was honored after the record-breaking weekend as the Atlantic 10 Offensive Player of the Week, while Sarah Crowley was tabbed the Co-Defensive Player of the Week. It marked the second time this season both players earned a weekly honor from the league office.
On the year, Burnett and Holly Turner are tied for the team lead in points with 37 each. Burnett leads the team in goals with 30, while Turner has a very balanced 18 goals and 19 assists through 10 games.
Murphy leads the Minutewomen in draw controls with 85 on the year and ranks third in scoring with 19 goals and eight assists. Kaitlyn Cerasi (25 points) and Callie Santos (23 points) round out the Minutewomen's top scorers.
Defensively, Lauren Hiller continues to man the cage with an 11.29 goals-against-average and a 0.462 save percentage as the goalie of record. Crowley leads the Minutewomen in caused turnovers (27) and groundballs (33).
Statistically, the Minutewomen now lead the Atlantic 10 in five different team categories: Points per game (20.90), draw controls per game (15.1), caused turnovers per game (12.6), assists per game (7.8) and shots on goal per game (23.8). Nationally, UMass ranks fourth in assists and caused turnovers and 17th in points per game.
Individually, Murphy became the nation's leader in draw controls this year with 8.5 per outing. She is the active career leader in the country with 395 for her career which ranks eighth all-time in NCAA history. She needs four more draws to move into seventh all-time and is on pace to finish as high as fourth-best draw specialist in the sport's history.
Other NCAA leaders for the Minutewomen include Crowley who is seventh nationally in caused turnovers and 19th in groundballs, Burnett who is eighth in shot percentage (.625) and Hiller who ranks 26th in saves per game (9.2).
UMass is 2-0 all-time against Davidson (3-5, 1-1 A-10) and 17-8 against the Spiders (7-3, 2-0 A-10). The long-standing rivalry with Richmond has been a hallmark of the Atlantic 10 with the two programs having played each other six times in the league finals including each of the last three years.
