Turner Sparks Women's Lax to 19-9 Win Over Colonials

Junior posts career-best nine points on six assists and three goals in win over GW.

AMHERST, Mass. - Sparked by a career-high nine points by Holly Turner, the UMass women's lacrosse team remained perfect in league play this season with a 19-9 win over George Washington on Friday afternoon at Garber Field. The win marked the 52nd consecutive league win for the Minutewomen who will look to claim the regular-season Atlantic 10 title on Sunday afternoon when George Mason visits.

The win improved UMass to 12-3 overall and 7-0 in A-10 play, while George Washington fell to 2-12 overall and 1-6 in conference action. It also marked the 11th consecutive win of the year for the Minutewomen.

Turner led all players with her nine points which was just one shy of tying the UMass single-game record. Her six assists on the day were also a career-high while she tallied three goals as well. Hannah Burnett and Callie Santos (2 assists) each had four goals, while Kiley Anderson scored three and Ashley Faulhaber added two.

Hannah Murphy controlled 13 draws to move into sixth all-time in NCAA history with 450 in her career while adding two goals.

Defensively, Lauren Hiller picked up the win making four saves in 52 minutes of work before Aileen Kelly closed out the game making two saves. Kasey Keane caused three turnovers while scooping up two groundballs while Alex Flobeck had a caused turnover and a team-high four groundballs.

The Colonials were led by three goals from Jocelyn Donohue and four point games by Bailey Forcier and Michaela Lynch who each had a pair of goals and a pair of assists. Cassi Shollenberger rounded out the top performers with a pair of goals as well. Adele Wise took the loss in cage making 12 saves.

The Minutewomen held a commanding 45-to-21 advantage in shots and won 21-of-30 draw controls on the day. 

George Washington scored the opening goal of the game two minutes into play, but the Minutewomen responded with seven straight goals over the next six minutes with Turner assisting on three and scoring another. The Colonials scored back-to-back goals cutting the deficit to 7-3 at the 17:20 mark of the first half. Over the next nine minutes, GW continued to keep close to the Minutewomen, trailing just 9-6 with 8:42 remaining, but the Minutewomen scored four of the final five goals in the opening half to go up 13-7 at the intermission.

The UMass defense held the Colonials to just two second half goals after Burnett and Santos opened the stanza with scores in the first six minutes of action. Anderson and Faulhaber combined for the last four UMass goals to give the final score.
