Record Day for Women's Lax in 24-14 Win Over Saint Joseph's

Hannah Burnett breaks school record for single-game goals, ties record for points.
AMHERST, Mass. - Led by a school-record eight goals by redshirt junior Hannah Burnett, the UMass women's lacrosse team won its sixth-straight game on Sunday afternoon with a 24-14 victory over Saint Joseph's at Garber Field. Burnett also tied the school-record for points in a game, while the 24 team goals tied the program record.
All told, the Minutewomen (7-3, 2-0 A-10) set or tied three team records in picking up their NCAA-record 47th consecutive regular-season league win. UMass' 19 assists on the 24 goals and a total of 43 points were both school records as well. The Minutewomen had 26 draw controls in the game which were the second-most in program history.
Burnett's eight goals surpassed the previous high of seven scored by All-American Katie Ferris in 2012. She added a pair of assists to finish the day with 10 points which tied her with Ferris who did the same three times in 2012. The Huntington, N.Y., native finished the weekend with 12 goals to lead a UMass offense which opened A-10 play with a combined 43 goals in two league games.
Joining Burnett as UMass' top scorers was Holly Turner who tied her career-high with seven points on four goals and three assists. Callie Santos also notched four goals and an assist while adding a career-best seven draw controls, while Ashley Faulhaber had three goals and an assist in the second half alone. After setting a school-record in draw controls on Thursday, Murphy had the second-most for a game in program history with 14 on Sunday.
Defensively, Sarah Crowley led UMass with four caused turnovers and four groundballs, while Lauren Hiller picked up the win in cage with nine saves.
Saint Joseph's (4-5, 1-1 A-10) was led by Penny Green who had three goals and two goals from Nora McCallion, Hope Anhut, and Aly Gormley. Amelia Deibler took the loss in cage making 10 saves.
The Minutewomen won 26-of-40 draw controls in the game which led to a 50-to-25 shot advantage. UMass also converted four-of-seven free position attempts and notched a pair of man-down goals.
The opening 16 minutes of the game saw each team trade leads and runs with the Hawks tying UMass 5-5 after three-goal runs by each team at the 13:49 mark.
The Minutewomen the scored eight of the next nine goals in the balance of the first half taking a 13-6 lead into the intermission.
Saint Joseph's scored just 18 seconds into the second half, but the Minutewomen responded with four consecutive goals to go up 17-7 after Burnett's eighth of the day.
The Hawks cut the margin to seven, 19-12 on back-to-back goals from Sarah Smith and Gormley, but a pair of Faulhaber goals along with one of two from Kiley Anderson pushed the lead back to 10 with 5:01 remaining.
Faulhaber scored with 52 seconds to go on a free-position shot to tie the team record of 24 goals which was originally set at Williams in 1980.
UMass will next be in action on Friday, April 7 at Davidson before returning to Garber Field to host Richmond on Sunday, April 9.
