Klee Grand Slam Powers Softball Past Fordham, 5-4

AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts softball (18-17, 7-2 Atlantic 10) defeated Fordham (31-11, 7-3 A-10), 5-4, Friday in game one of the three-game series.
Junior Meg Colleran earned the win in the circle for the Minutewomen, her 10th of the season, and senior Jena Cozza made her season debut in the field. Colleran pitched a full seven innings, striking out four batters while giving up eight hits and four earned runs.
Down 1-0 in the bottom of the third, senior Tara Klee hit her first homerun of the season, a grand slam over the left field fence, to give the Minutewomen their game-winning lead. The Rams battled back to score three runs in the top of the seventh but Colleran escaped for the victory.
The Minutewomen picked up eight hits over the course of the game, with sophomore Kaitlyn Stavinoha (three-for-four) leading UMass' offense with a double and an RBI. Sophomores Erin Stacevicz and Kaycee Carbone posted singles, along with freshman Candace Denis and Cozza. Denis extended her hitting streak to five games and Carboneand Stacevicz's streaks of games reaching base are now at 11 and 10, respectively.
