Women's Lax Collects 50th Straight A-10 Win at La Salle

April 13, 2017 | Women's Lacrosse

Minutewomen set school record for goals in 25-10 win.

PHILADELPHIA - Ten different Minutewomen scored goals on Friday afternoon as the UMass women's lacrosse team extended its NCAA record league win streak to 50 consecutive games thanks to a 25-10 victory over La Salle at McCarthy Stadium. The 25 goals marked a new school record for the Minutewomen who also won their ninth straight game of the year.

UMass (10-3, 5-0 A-10) will continue its road weekend on Saturday at St. Bonaventure. The game will be streamed live on the Atlantic 10 Digital Network starting at Noon.

Friday's game saw senior attack Callie Santos post a new career-high with eight points on four goals and four assists. Freshman attack Kaitlyn Cerasi was just behind with three goals and four assists. Redshirt sophomore Kiley Anderson had a team-high five goals, while redshirt junior attack Hannah Burnett added three goals and a pair of assists as well.

UMass dominated the draw circle in the game winning 27-of-37 attempts thanks in part to the efforts of senior midfielder Hannah Murphy (11 draw controls) and senior defender Sarah Crowley. Crowley hauled in a career-high nine draws to go with six groundballs, two caused turnovers and a career-high two goals scored. Lauren Hiller earned the win in cage with a pair of saves in 42 minutes of work. Aileen Kelly closed out the game making four saves while allowing no goals in the final 18 minutes of action.

La Salle (6-7, 2-3 A-10) was led by five goals from Allee Ilgenfritz and a four-point day from Nicole Black who had a goal and three assists. Lucy Loughlin took the loss making 13 saves in 51 minutes of work.

The Explorers scored early in the game posting three of the first four goals on the day. Just over 10 minutes into play, La Salle continued to go toe-to-toe with the Minutewomen taking a 5-3 lead on a goal by Black.

Crowley and Abby Walker then scored goals on back-to-back draw control wins which sparked a four-goal run putting the Minutewomen up 7-5. La Salle managed to tie the game with back-to-back goals, but UMass scored seven of the next eight goals taking a 14-8 lead into halftime.

Burnett extended the lead to 16-8 with a pair of goals in 40 seconds to start the second half. La Salle added a pair of goals in the next five minutes, but the UMass defense held the Explorers scoreless for the next 25 minutes of play. The Minutewomen closed the game scoring eight straight goals.

For the game, UMass held a 53-to-23 advantage in shots thanks in part to the control of the draw circle. Both teams had 14 turnovers, while the Minutewomen had a slight 30-to-25 edge in groundballs.
