Rivalry Renewed as Women's Lax Heads to New Hampshire

March 09, 2017 | Women's Lacrosse

Minutewomen and Wildcats set for Friday afternoon tilt.

AMHERST, Mass. - The longest running rivalry for the UMass women's lacrosse program is renewed once again as the Minutewomen head to New Hampshire on Friday afternoon for the 46th installment of the series since 1977. The two programs all but two times in that span with a perfectly split series at 21-21-3 between the two teams. The opening draw is set for 2 p.m. at Wildcat Stadium in Durham, N.H., and the game will be streamed live on the America East Digital Network.

In addition to the rivalry between the two programs, the annual meeting will also see a few familiar faces reunited. UMass head coach Angela McMahon and New Hampshire head coach Sarah Albrecht were both teammates at Northwestern before serving together as assistant coaches at UMass in 2007. Friday's match-up will also feature UMass freshman Stephanie Croke suiting up against her older sister in New Hampshire senior Devon Croke.

UMass enters the game with a 2-3 record after last Sunday's dramatic 10-9 overtime win at home against Connecticut. Senior Callie Santos provided the game-winning goal, while redshirt junior Hannah Burnett led the Minutewomen overall with four goals.

On the year, Holly Turner and Hannah Murphy lead UMass offensively with eight goals each. Turner has the team lead in points with 15, while Murphy is just two behind. Santos has also reached double-figure points with 10 on six goals and four assists. Murphy leads the program in draw controls with 32 on the year which ranks eighth nationally (6.40/game). She is the active NCAA career leader with 342 and needs 12 more to move into ninth all-time in NCAA women's lacrosse history.

In cage, Lauren Hiller is the goalie of record with a 13.51 goals-against-average and a 0.419 save percentage.

New Hampshire enters the game with an 0-5 record on the year including losses at Holy Cross and Fairfield last week. The Wildcats are led by Devan Miller who has 15 points on eight goals and seven assists and Krissy Schafer who has 12 goals. Croke is just behind with 11 points on 10 goals and an assist.

Kate Clancy is the goalie of record with a 13.63 goals-against-average and a 0.425 save percentage.

UMass will have 12 days between games after Friday with the next match-up on the road at Harvard on Wednesday, March 22. That game will be televised on NESNPlus and NESN National.
