Burnett's Five Leads Women's Lax Past New Hampshire 13-4

Redshirt junior attack scores game-high five goals as Minutewomen win second straight.
DURHAM, N.H. - Redshirt junior Hannah Burnett scored a game-high five goals, while senior Hannah Murphy had three goals and 10 draw controls leading the UMass women's lacrosse team to a 13-4 win at New Hampshire on Friday afternoon. The Minutewomen jumped out of the gates to a 5-0 lead in the first seven minutes of play and never looked back.
The win improved UMass to 3-3 on the year with its next game on March 22 at Harvard (7 p.m., NESNPlus, NESN National).
Burnett's five goals marked her second straight big game for the Minutewomen after she scored four goals in the overtime win against Connecticut last Sunday. Along with her three goals, Murphy also had two assists. Her 10 draw controls gives her 352 for her career placing her just two shy of moving into ninth all-time in the history of the NCAA.
Freshman Kaitlyn Cerasi had a pair of goals, while redshirt sophomore Kiley Anderson, senior Callie Santos and junior Holly Turner each added one. Turner also had a pair of assists in the win. Freshman goalie Lauren Hiller earned the win making 11 saves in goal.
New Hampshire (0-6) was led by Krissy Schaffer who had two goals and Carly Wooters who had a goal and an assist. Devon Croke added a goal to round out the scorers for the Wildcats. Kate Clancy made seven saves in goal to take the loss.
Santos put UMass on the board first just 26 seconds into the game, while Cerasi made it a 2-0 lead 14 seconds later. A minute after that, Murphy converted a UNH turnover into a goal making it 3-0 within the first two minutes of action.
Burnett the scored back-to-back goals giving the Minutewomen a 5-0 lead at the 23:08 mark of the opening stanza. Schaffer broke up the run nine minutes later, but the Minutewomen scored three of the next four goals taking an 8-2 lead into halftime.
Both teams traded two-goal runs to start the second half, but after Croke's goal with 27:24 on the clock, the Minutewomen were able to hold the Wildcats scoreless for the balance of the game. Murphy scored her third of the day at the 10:33 mark while Burnett tacked on two more goals in the final seven minutes to give the final score.
UMass held a slim 24-to-23 edge in shots and a 10-to-9 advantage in draw controls. The Minutewomen were able to collect 24 groundballs compared with 15 for the Wildcats.
