Minutewomen and Crimson set for 7 p.m. opening draw on NESNPlus, NESN National
AMHERST, Mass. - After an 11-day break, the UMass women's lacrosse team returns to action on Wednesday night at Harvard in a game that will be televised on NESNPlus, NESN National and the Ivy League Digital Network. The opening draw is set for 7 p.m.
The Minutewomen have won two-straight games entering the week with a 10-9 overtime victory against Connecticut at Garber Field and a 13-4 decision at New Hampshire. The wins improved UMass to 3-3 overall on the year and will host Marist on Saturday (3 p.m.) as part of a double-header with the men's team at Garber Field.
Following the win at New Hampshire, Sarah Crowley was named the Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Week and Lauren Hiller was honored as the Rookie of the Week.
Hannah Murphy and Holly Turner each lead the team with 18 points. Murphy has 11 goals and seven assists while also leading the program with 42 draw controls. Turner has had a balanced start to the year with nine goals and nine assists. Hannah Burnett leads the team in goals with 12 thanks to nine tallies in the last two games.
Defensively, Crowley leads the Minutewomen with 12 caused turnovers and 17 groundballs. Hiller is the goalie of record with an 11.93 goals-against-average, is averaging 10 saves an outing and posting a 0.455 save percentage.
This week should see a few milestones reached for Murphy. The senior on the Tewaaraton Watch List enters the two games needing one goal for 100 in her career. She also is the active leader in the NCAA in draw controls with 352 and needs two more to move into ninth all-time in the history of the NCAA. She also needs three more goals to crack the program's all-time top-10 list.
Harvard (4-2) is coming off a narrow 17-16 overtime loss against Syracuse in Winter Park, Fla., last Saturday. That snapped a three-game win streak for the Crimson. Marisa Romeo leads Harvard with 29 points highlighted by 21 goals. Keeley MacAfee is just behind with 17 goals and three assists. Four other Crimson players have reached double-figure points on the year.
In cage, Meredith Brown has started all six games with a 3-2 record, an 11.46 goals-against-average and a 0.400 save percentage. Olivia Gundrum has appeared in two games with a 6.58 GAA, a 0.429 save percentage and a 1-0 record.
