Men’s Soccer Hosts Duquesne On Alumni Weekend Saturday

AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts men's soccer team will take their five-match unbeaten streak into an Atlantic 10 matchup against Duquesne on Saturday at 12 p.m. at Rudd Field. The afternoon is a part of Alumni Weekend which will mark the 10th anniversary of the Minutemen's 2007 College Cup run. The National Semifinalist team will be recognized at halftime of the match with a banquet in their honor to be held later that evening. Admission to Saturday's contest is free.
The Minutemen own a 6-0-1 record on their home field after a late push to defeat Vermont 2-1 on Tuesday to match UMass' best home start since 1997. Overall, UMass enters the weekend with a 7-2-2 mark and a 1-0-0 mark in A-10 play, having defeated Saint Louis 3-1 on the road last Saturday.
UMass sits at 32nd on the latest NCAA RPI that was released on Sunday, marking the top-ranking of any team in the Atlantic 10.
Davis Smith and Alex DeSantis notched their respective goals in the non-conference schedule wrap-up against Vermont on Tuesday within a three-minute span as Smith picked up his fifth goal of the season in the 77th minute before DeSantis' game-winner came in the 80th minute. Davis heads into Saturday on a three-match goal streak with all five of his goals coming in the last five contests. DeSantis' goal gave the senior his second straight match with a goal to add to his team-best 13 points on the season.
The opponent, Duquesne, enters the match with a 3-7-1 record on the season with a 1-1-0 mark in league play. The Dukes bested La Salle 3-1 in their conference opener before falling to Saint Louis 3-0 in a midweek matchup on Wednesday.
UMass leads the all-time series over the Dukes 7-6-3 with their last meeting coming in 2012 that resulted in a Duquesne overtime win to give them consecutive wins in the series over the Minutemen.
The Minutemen head into their second league match outscoring their opponents by eight goals on the season while holding their counterparts to under a goal per game at 0.91 with Bardia Asefnia between the posts for every minute this season. UMass has 12 players who have recorded at least a point through 11 games with DeSantis and Davis leading the way with 13 and 12 points respectively.
