Men's Soccer Closes Non-Conference Slate Tuesday Versus Vermont

Minutemen and Catamounts set for 4 PM kickoff at Rudd Field.
AMHERST, Mass. - Riding a four-match unbeaten streak, the UMass men's soccer team returns to Rudd Field on Tuesday to close out its non-conference schedule against Vermont. The match is set for a 4 PM opening kickoff and will be streamed live on the Atlantic 10 Digital Network. Admission is free.
The Minutemen are coming off an impressive 3-1 win at Saint Louis on Saturday in their first Atlantic 10 match of the year. Davis Smith earned Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week honors after scoring a pair of goals for UMass, including the eventual game-winner. Vermont enters the contest after wins over Harvard and Hartford last week improving to 6-4-0 overall.
Overall, UMass enters the week with a 6-2-2 record and is unbeaten on the home pitch with a mark of 5-0-1 - the best home start since going 6-0-0 in 1997. With that start, UMass moved up to No. 32 in the latest NCAA RPI which was released on Monday, Oct. 1 which is the highest placement for any team in the Atlantic 10.
Following Tuesday's contest, the Minutemen will remain at home on Saturday as they jump back into league play against Duquesne (12 PM). The day will be part of the program's Alumni Weekend which will celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the 2007 College Cup run. Members of the National Semifinalist squad will be honored at halftime of the match while a special banquet will be held in their honor later that evening.
Entering the Vermont match, UMass is led offensively by senior co-captain Alex DeSantis who leads the Minutemen in scoring with 11 points on four goals and three assists. Smith moved into second-place on the team with 10 points this season on four goals and two assists. All four of his goals have come in the last four matches.
The Minutemen have had players from all over the field contribute offensively with eight goal-scorers this year. A total of 10 players have registered at least a points through 10 matches.
Defensively, UMass continues to be one of the top units in the Atlantic 10. Bardia Asefnia has started all 10 matches with a 0.86 goals-against-average and a 0.786 save percentage.
