May 09, 2016 | Softball
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - After a week where the Minutewomen went undefeated and earned four victories, UMass softball redshirt sophomore Jena Cozza and freshman Kaycee Carbone collected a pair of Atlantic 10 weekly awards, the conference announced Monday.
The A-10 selected Cozza as the conference's Player of the Week after she batted .538 (7-of-13) with two home runs and four doubles. The Wantagh, New York, native also drove in four runs and scored seven more as she earned the award for the second time this season.
Carbone won the A-10 Rookie of the Week laurel for her work over three appearances - the sweep of visiting-Dayton - where she hit .571 (4-for-7). The freshman doubled and tripled and also drove in two runs during the week. She drew a walk in each game as well, which gave her a .700 on-base percentage over the stretch.
The Minutewomen are back in action on Wednesday in the first round of the Atlantic 10 Championship, where they square off with No. 6 seed and tournament host George Washington at 2:30 p.m.
