Six Minutewomen Take Home Conference Laurels

WASHINGTON, D.C. - University of Massachusetts softball had six players named to postseason Atlantic 10 Awards, the conference announced on Tuesday.
Redshirt sophomore Jena Cozza and sophomore Meg Colleran were each named first-team all-conference team, while senior Taylor Carbone was named second-team all-conference.
Cozza batted .381 over the Minutewomen’s 46 games. She hit 11 home runs and 13 doubles and led the conference with 104 total bases. The redshirt sophomore batted .412 against conference opponents.
Colleran led the A-10 with 20 wins, the first Minutewomen pitcher since 2012 to reach the milestone. The sophomore had a 2.13 ERA and 125 strikeouts, each among the conference leaders. She was 12th in the country in shutouts, blanking opposing lineups seven times. In conference games, Colleran held opposing batters to a .235 average.
T. Carbone batted .381 with six home runs and was fifth in the A-10 with 37 RBI. In conference play, the senior hit .425 with four home runs. She heads into the Atlantic 10 Championship riding a 12-game hitting streak, the longest of any Minutewoman this season.
Kaycee Carbone, Erin Stacevicz and Kaitlyn Stavinoha were named to the Atlantic 10 All-Rookie team. Stacevicz hit .360 and scored 32 runs and was a perfect 7-for-7 in stolen base chances. K. Carbone batted .302 for the Minutewomen, adding two home runs. The outfielder also doubled six times and had two triples. Stavinoha batted .219 for UMass and drove in 15 runs. The second baseman was a perfect 4-for-4 in stolen base opportunities.
The Minutewomen enter the Atlantic 10 Championship as the No. 3 seed and square off with No. 6 and host George Washington on Wed., May 12 at 2:30 p.m.
