WASHINGTON, D.C. - University of Massachusetts softball earned two conference wins on Saturday as it swept George Washington in a doubleheader, winning 2-0 and 9-1, respectively. UMass moves to 18-21 with a 10-5 record in Atlantic 10 play, while George Washington falls to 21-22 with an 8-8 conference mark.

Game One

Sophomore pitcher Meg Colleran tied her career high with eight strikeouts as the Minutewomen won the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader, 2-0.

In the third inning, freshman Erin Stacevicz singled to lead off the inning and moved to second base on an error by the left fielder. She advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored when senior Taylor Carbone singled into center field. After junior Tara Klee singled to load the bases, classmate Ashton Wince drove in the second UMass run when she was hit by a pitch.

Colleran struck out the final two batters to earn her 15th win of the season and her sixth complete game shutout of the year. She never allowed a GW runner to advance past second base and retired the side in order in three different innings.

Game Two

Redshirt sophomore Jena Cozza homered twice as the Minutewomen topped GW in the second game of the doubleheader, 9-1.

The team combined for four home runs in the win, as senior Olivia Godin added her first career home run and junior Tara Klee rounded the bases.

Cozza and Klee each homered in the first inning to give UMass an early 3-0 lead. Klee’s home run chased George Washington starter Jayme Cone from the game after a third of an inning pitched.

Cozza connected for her second home run of the game in the second inning, sending the ball deep over the left field fence for her eighth blast of the season.

UMass added two more runs in the third inning to extend its lead. Godin singled to right center field and scored freshman Dana Barclay from second base. Freshman Kaitlyn Stavinoha followed with a sacrifice fly that scored senior Lindsey Zenk.

The Colonials got a run back in the bottom half of the inning. Rochelle Draper walked with one out and advanced to second base on a wild pitch. Megan Linn doubled in the following at bat to give George Washington its lone run of the day.

Junior Caitlyn Hickey delivered a pinch-hit double to lead off the fifth inning for the Minutewomen. After a foul out and a walk, Godin sent a 2-2 offering over the left field fence for her first career home run and.
